In Memory of Uleen Toovey, a.k.a. Chromasmear...

The beautiful Chromasmear

Uleen Toovey, a.k.a. Chromasmear, occupied a dear place in my heart. I have to admit when I first saw her in the chat rooms I was a bit intimidated by her -- she was so beautiful, and knew everyone, and seemed so self-assured. Not much time went by though until I realized that she was one of the most down-to-earth and kindest souls I had ever met. She was incredibly warm and welcoming not only to the newcomers, but also to the Etsy chat regulars. She never came into the chat room and failed to say hello to me.

I have so many memories of times with her in chat: playing chat games (she was always one of the people to organize them in order to bring all of us together while also having fun) discussing our line of work (she worked with the disabled like I do), planning on how to help animals in need, and lots of little silly things like where to get pretty hair ties (FlyingButtons was her favorite) or great-smelling teas (BlueRavenTea was her favorite). She also recently voted on my "Help Me Name My New Baby Cockatiel" poll; she voted for "Beetle Bug", which was my personal favorite too. Yesterday, in honor of her, I decided to definitely name him/her "Beetle Bug" in her memory. I will also always keep my bunny avatar up, because the one time I changed it she got so upset that she couldn't easily find me!! I ended up changing it back just for her.

Her mother wants us to donate to our local animal shelters in Uleen's memory. Please help keep her spirit alive by doing so; I know it would mean so much to her. Also, if you would like to contribute your memories of her to an article we're sending in to the Storque, please send them to danilykenoah @ http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5783081 -- please send them in TODAY, tomorrow at the latest.

Also, please check out this treasury in remembrance of Chroma and her fierce dedication to helping animals: http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list_west.php?room_id=61621

I love you and miss you terribly, Chroma.

  3. I didn't know Uleen as much as many of you, but from the start of my time on etsy, she was sweet and so friendly in chat. I am so sad for her family, and wish them my heartfelt condolences, and prayers.

  4. I will miss her too! I was very sad to have to change my "Chroma" listing with this terrible news! She always offered kindness and help! 100% of the profits from my shop for the rest of July are going to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in her honor.

  5. All of your comments are making me cry, but I guess that is better than holding it all in. I donated some money for her mother, and I am also going to donate some money as well as my time to my local animal shelter. I also plan on doing a couple of other little things... hopefully by doing these things we'll feel a little better...

  8. Just when I think I'm doing better the tears start up again and don't stop... oh how I wish that Chroma would write back to my twitters to her, that somehow this would all turn out to be a terrible, terrible joke...

  9. Im not suprised to find yet more info on another blog about my friend Ula. I miss her so much. On the day I found out she passed someone tiped my son a canadian coin for playing guitar and he gave it to me to remember her. Everytime i reach into my coin purse i think of her. She bloged about me and my products and helped me when i was down and out. I too will keep my Chromasmear art forever. At this point the shock has settled, the tears are dry but my heart still aches. Hugs to her Elreen her mom. In her name I donated to a place that helps unwanted charpae dogs. I know i didnt spell that right but it seems that people buy them because they are cute wrinkly puppies but then the wrinkles kinda fade and they are a handfull so they disguard them.
I think she would of liked the cause. Blessings my Friend, Till we meet again, Suebee
